The Peace

He stands in the center of the darkened stage staring out at the empty theatre waiting for the peace to wash over him. On this day, especially, he needs every trace of what came before wiped away. It is only here, in this place that the peace ever finds him. But tonight, it does not come.

Instead, echos of the day's voices begin to rise in his head. Voices that are reminding him of a recent past full of pain, heartache and betrayal. And the peace, it does not come.

He remembers now the one who has caused this cacophony in his head. The one who came to him and opened old wounds, wounds that he's unable to heal. The peace, it will not come.

Exhausted from the day, he drops to his knees knowing he has failed. He has let the past find him again. And the peace may never come.
